By registering for an account with this site, you agree to be bound by these terms.

This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, exclusive of its choice of law provisions. Exclusive venue for all disputes arising out of or relating to your use of this site shall be the local, state, and federal courts in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. All parties agree not to dispute such personal jurisdiction and hereby waives all objections thereto.

While this site’s administrators take reasonable steps to help maintain stability and uptime, this site may be subject to occasional downtime and loss of data. You must take steps to preserve any content that you would prefer not to lose.

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THIS SITE AND ALL SERVICES PROVIDED HEREIN ARE PROVIDED ON AN “AS IS” BASIS. THE ADMINISTRATORS OF THIS SITE DO NOT WARRANT OR REPRESENT THAT THIS SITE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, FREE FROM ERRORS, OR COMPLETELY SECURE. NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING ELSE IN THE AGREEMENT TO THE CONTRARY, THE MAXIMUM AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF THIS SITE AND ANY OF ITS ADMINISTRATORS UNDER ANY THEORY OF LAW (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO BREACH OF CONTRACT, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, AND INFRINGEMENT) SHALL BE A PAYMENT OF MONEY BY THE SITE ADMINISTRATORS TO THE USER NOT TO EXCEED ONE US DOLLAR ($1.00).

Privacy Policy

BASIC ACCOUNT INFORMATION: If you register for an account, we will ask you to provide a username, email address, and password. You may optionally enter additional profile information such as a display name and biography, and upload a profile picture or header image. The username, display name, biography, profile picture, and header image are always listed publicly.

POSTS, INTERACTIONS, AND OTHER PUBLIC INFORMATION: When you post content (also called a “toot”), your content along with metadata such as the date, time, and application you used to post the message is stored and will be shared publicly. The act of boosting, favoriting, or pinning a message is public. In some cases, your messages may be forwarded to and stored on other servers, in accordance with those servers’ own privacy policies. It may be possible for those other servers to retain your content against your wishes. It may also be possible for your messages to be screenshotted, downloaded, copied, or otherwise re-shared beyond your intended recipients.

POST PRIVACY SETTINGS: Posts are set to “public” visibility by default. Posts set to “followers only” are delivered only to your followers and users who are tagged in the post. Direct posts are delivered only to users who are tagged in the post. In some cases, your messages may be forwarded to and stored on other services, in accordance with those servers’ own privacy policies. It may be possible for those other servers to retain your content against your wishes. It may also be possible for your messages to be screenshotted, downloaded, copied, or otherwise re-shared beyond your intended recipients.

FOLLOWERS: The list of people you follow is public. The list of people following you is public. By default, anyone may follow you without your approval. This feature can be toggled in the settings menu.

COLLECTING DATA:< Each time you visit the site, regardless of whether you log in, we log the IP address you visit from. If you log in, we also log the user agent, which may identify your web browser. We also log all data you provide to us such as your username, email address, or message content. We retain server logs for 12 months unless otherwise directed by a court order. It may be possible for your ISP or our upstream hosting providers to obtain additional information about you through technologies such as browser fingerprinting, behavioral analysis, HTTPS inspection, or other methods not yet known. It may be possible for this information to be used to identify you.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information described in this section to:

  • provide core Mastodon functionality. For example, you must log in in order to interact with other users’ content or change account settings.
  • contact you with information regarding your content. For example, we may email you when someone interacts with your content.
  • contact you to service your account. For example, we may email you to facilitate a password recovery.
  • moderate the community. For example, we may utilize your IP address to block abusive users.

How We Protect Your Information

Your information is sent over a secure connection using HTTPS. This encrypts your data between your device and our server. Note that if you are using a non-owned device (such as your employer’s laptop) to access our services, your employer may utilize technologies such as HTTPS inspection or screen monitoring. These technologies can be used to intercept your information.

Our server is secured using industry standards including regular software updates, IP restrictions on administrator access, and a firewall. Physical access to our server is protected by a badge control system, video surveillance, and on-site security personnel.

We encourage all users to help reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access to their account by:
  • using multifactor authentication on this and all other accounts
  • using long (20+ characters), random, unique passwords on this and all sites
  • keeping their equipment up to date with all operating system and application updates
  • using a reputable antivirus solution such as Malwarebytes, Avira, or Microsoft
  • avoiding the use of untrusted, unknown, or unencrypted (such as open wifi) networks

Our Data Retention Policy

We make a good faith effort to retain data no more than 12 months. Mastodon allows you to request and download all of your content (including toots, attachments, and profile images) at any time. Mastodon also allows you to permanently delete your account at any time.

Yes. We use cookies to recognize your browser, process your login, and save your preferences for future visits.

Information Disclosure To Outside Parties

Except as detailed in this section, this site does not sell, rent, or distribute information of any nature whatsoever to outside parties beyond what is required to facilitate your use of this service. For example, when you mention a user from another server, or when another server federates our content, your content will be shared with that server. In this case, that server will process your content in accordance with their own privacy policy.

We may be forced to reveal some or all of your information if we are served with a court order in either the United States of America or Canada.

If we believe, in our sole judgment, that you have utilized this site to commit illegal activity, we may voluntarily share all information about you with law enforcement.

If you use a third-party application to access this site, that application may be able to collect and retain some or all of your information in accordance with that application’s privacy policy.

Site usage by children

This site and all of the products and services contained within are only open to individuals who are 13 years of age or older. If you are under 13 years of age, you are prohibited from using this site.

Changes to our Privacy Policy
